Fall is here across the United States. Is a time when many of your local rivers, lakes, and ponds aren't nearly as busy as they are in the peak of summer. As kids are back in school, sports are in high gear, and many anglers are also off in the woods hunting. Now is a great time to get on a river near you for fishing and try your luck at fly fishing with streamers. From brown trout to smallmouth bass to a variety of other species, here are five on the best streamers for any water near you. For fall fly fishing, especially when targeting trout, streamers can be highly effective as fish become more aggressive and are looking for high-protein meals before winter.

The good ole classic Woolly Bugger in olive, black, and brown is a go-to fly for fall. It's one of the most versatile streamers and can imitate a wide range of prey, including baitfish, leeches, and crayfish.

A Muddler Minnow in natural, olive, and black should be in any fly box this fall. The deer hair head pushes water, attracting aggressive strikes. It imitates sculpins and small baitfish.

A must-have for fall the Sculpzilla in olive, black, and brown. It imitates sculpins and has an articulated body, which gives it a lot of movement in the water.

New to the streamer scene, a Kreelex Minnow in copper/gold, silver, and rainbow can be deadly. This flashy, reflective streamer works well in low-light conditions or murky water, making it ideal for fall.

Sometimes overlooked, but a Double Bunny in olive/white, brown/yellow, and black is very good. It’s a large, meaty streamer that imitates baitfish. Great for targeting aggressive, pre-winter trout.
